Following the recent Cyclone in the area we have a vast number of bird types not common to the area. This is making bird watching even more exciting with many surprise sightings.

We went Bird Watching again at Eubenangee Swamp north of Innisfail recently. I won't go into detail other than to say it is a very special undiscovered bird watchers paradise. In the centre of the swamp is a small hill with a few trees for shade at the top. There is a mown path right over the top for easy walking. From the top you can see for at least 30km all around. We even saw a 4 meter crock from the top

Please don't hesitate to e-mail us if you have any questions about wild-life in the area. This is a passion of ours so even if you want to know what we have seen today drop us a line.

Bird Watching Tours

For the best Bird watching Tours In Australia we would recommend a visit up to the Daintree and an early morning trip with Chris Dahlberg. He is one of the inspirations as to why we settled in Australia

Wilbur

Some of our guests saw a baby Wallaby on the side of the road and alerted us. We contacted our local wild life carers and have been caring for Wilbur for the last four months. He was a wonderful, temporary addition to the Honeyeater and has taught us so much about why we should be protecting these beautiful creatures. Wilbur has now moved on to the next stage of his rehabilitation and is living at a home in the open forest where a wonderful family, Rebecca, Frank and daughter Sarina, live. We have been back a few times to visit and he seems very happy. He has made friends with Opal who is an orphaned female of the same species. She was being looked after by the family before he arrived and gets a little upset with him at feeding time at the moment. She must be a bit jealous of all the attention he is getting. He is still being fed by bottle but is eating much more grass than he was before.

It cost us about $275 just in the last few months with vet fees etc. I can't imagine how the wild life care centre copes. If you would find it in your heart to donate any money to the care of our local Wild Life please click on this link :  Wild life donations

Coco

We also wanted to welcome the latest addition to the Honeyeater Homestay

She is a X Lab - Springer Spaniel and is still a puppy as you can see. We think she is very well behaved and has had extensive training with not being allowed to chew guests toes on arrival. We hope you get to meet her.
